Not all that much to say actually. “It all started during covid lockdown” has become something of a press release cliché but it’s true. I still tell people I’m secluding against infection when I’m just really nursing some extreme katagelophobia. But yeah with a lot of alone time on my hands I’ve taught myself some rudimentary video editing skills.

A lot of times work seems to come out of recognizing a notable absence or missing promise in culture. With Coil, there just aren’t that many videos in the first place. Of Peter Christopherson’s own videos (https://www.factmag.com/2015/05/15/sleazy-cinema-music-videos-coil-peter- christopherson/), it’s only his direction of Nine Inch Nail’s (ug) “Broken” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH8hs3oA8LA
with its jumping montage of non-state-of-the-art techniques and near-explicit content, that comes close to what I would consider the aesthetic and substance of Coil, those to be found in the occult-erotic liner notes on “Scatology” for example.

Not sure why I limited the explicitness to cumshots, pegging and Tom Faulk’s anal apple piehole but, working off a rumor that someone in the Throbbing Gristle/Coil set had possession of the Ian Brady/Myra Hindley “field” recordings but apparently did not use them in any of their albums set a kind of boundary for the difference between titillation and the “too real”.
